Just to refresh you what were looking at is the compatibilty between the 3DX 450 tail unit and the V2,
First off i brought UGT12 and UGT13 tail pitch slider and bell crank from sportsmoto ltd www.sportsmoto.co.uk
Problem: The V2 tail output shaft is not long enough to take the pitch slider assembly,
And the tail blade grip's of the V2 are different, there is a extra threaded section on the grip which will not allow the slider link's to line up straight to the grips, the 3DX grip's having straight attachment point's.
Sportsmoto Ltd then sent me UGT 04 blade grip assembly tail shaft and pully, Once i recived this it became aparrent that,
The mounting point on the V2 tail case is incorrectly postioned to give a even space top and bottom of the bell crank control arm's effectively making it off centre.
The pulley used on the 3DX is much wider that the V2 so the the spacing of the tail case if different, the V2 pulley is a inteferance push fit. The 3DX uses two grub screws to hold the tail pulley in place.
If you had the above part's as well as the small right angle'd arm the bell crank attach's to then it is possible to modify the tail case to accept the new pulley of the 3DX and the tail pitch assembly with the use of spacer's however this requires a fair amount of work, i think that to offer it to your customers like this would cause you to many problem's and alot of guidence would be needed. Eventually i feel it would become a pain rather than a pleasure.
Im lucky really in that i have a solid engineering background, which is a great help as i can comunicate in a technical manner when needed and modifications are par for the course, i actually quite enjoy the challenges involed it getting thing's to fit and work properly, anyway the only option i can see working if there are enough people wanting to get this tail on there Trex is maybe offering a conversion kit, which would basically contain everything bar the the tail box, plus the required spacer's and instruction's, But is this really worth it? i'm not so sure.
The only draw back then is that this is a all or nothing unit, but as long as people are looking for zero slop in the tail i think it will sell well for you once more people are aware of it.
Having now fitted and flown this tail, i can confirm it is excellent and i'm very pleased with it ive done probably 30 flights+ with it over the last week and there is zero slop!! which is exactly what i wanted to achive, dont we all!?. I have been telling my friend's on forums and there is quite a bit of interest building for this unit, i actually belive a friend of mine, Ian, has purchased one from you and is also very pleased he to has now been spreading the word. I counted the ball races last night theres 16 in totall!! quite remarkable some low end helis dont have that many in the whole thing!!
Ii hope you find the info usefull to you and im very gratefull for the friendly help and understanding, if there are any point's that you would like to know more about please dont hesitate to ask, i have loads more pic's and i assesing it all the time i'd me more than happy to help.
Regards
Alex Hasell.
